5310 - STUDENT HEALTH SCREENING
It shall be the policy of the Board of Education that before November 1 of the school year in which a child is enrolled for kindergarten or first grade for the first time, the child must be screened for hearing, vision, speech and communications, other health or medical problems, and developmental disorders. Further assessment must be provided if the screening reveals the possibility of special learning needs.
The Board may perform the health screenings or they may contract with other persons or governmental entities to perform them, or may request parents to obtain screenings from providers selected by parents.
Before August 1 of the school year in which a child must be screened, parents must be provided with information about the screening program. If the Board program requires parents to obtain screenings, the information provided must include lists of providers.
Parents requested to obtain screening services may sign written statements to the Board stating they do not wish to have their children screened.
