2531 - COPYRIGHT COMPLIANCE
It is the intent of the Board of Education to delineate, enforce, and abide by the provisions of current copyright laws as they affect the District and its employees as citizens.
Copyrighted materials, whether they are print or nonprint, will not be duplicated unless such reproduction meets "fair use" standards or unless written permission from the copyright holders has been received.
The Board adheres to the concept that a violation of the "fair use" concept not only results in a direct financial loss to the owner but also violates the principle of fairness which is fundamental to teaching in our democratic society.
The Board does not sanction illegal duplication in any form. Employees who willfully disregard the District's copyright position are in violation of Board policy and Federal law. They do so at their own risk and assume all liability responsibility.
This policy should be posted in an appropriate place throughout the District.
