2520 - INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
It is the Board of Education's desire to provide instructional materials and equipment to enable the staff to provide a clarity of instruction and sufficient activities to meet students' differing learning needs. Therefore, the Board will allocate monies from available resources for instructional materials and equipment.
Instructional materials shall include, but not be limited to, the adopted textbook. Textbooks recommended to the Board shall have been selected on the basis of an established procedure and criteria and shall meet the State Department of Education requirements. All nontextbook materials used for instruction must meet the supplementary materials selection criteria. The use of instructional equipment, such as projectors and computers, to enhance instructional delivery, is encouraged when used in accordance with sound educational practice.
The Board encourages staff participation in the selection and evaluation of instructional materials and equipment.
Students shall be held responsible for the cost of replacing any materials or property which are lost or damaged through their negligence.
Cost of materials may be charged for materials used in those activities beyond the basic curriculum in which a student elects to participate, particularly in shop activities where the product becomes the property of the student.
The Superintendent shall provide procedures to ensure the availability of materials and equipment for implementing the curricula in accordance with this policy. The Superintendent shall further ensure that these funds are allocated on an equivalent basis for all District schools and sites.
