2411 - GUIDANCE PROGRAM

The Board of Education supports a guidance program that helps students understand themselves through awareness of their abilities, aptitudes, interests, attitudes, strengths, and limitations. The intent of this program is to assist students in the development of their potential, decision-making in personal, educational, and vocational matters, and in becoming capable of mature self-guidance.

The District's guidance services should include a variety of assessments, interpretation of results to students, parents and staff; programs that help students acquire good work habits and development of principles which relate to human dignity and equality.

A written guidance plan should be developed that provides a systematic aid to students in kindergarten through grade twelve. The activities identified in the guidance program include, but are not limited to, educational, career, civic, personal and social concerns such as the effects of harmful substances. The program provides for appraisal of students' academic abilities, counseling opportunities, educational and career planning referrals for special programs when appropriate, and information to parents. This plan will be evaluated and submitted to the Board for approval every other year.

Counseling services will be provided by a certified school counselor.
