2370.01 - BLENDED LEARNING

Background Information

The Winter School Board authorizes the exploration of a Blended Learning program upon the recommendation of the District Administrator. Blended Learning programming is endorsed for the purpose of strengthening partnerships with home-school parents and to respond to the changing trends in education. It also creates a local option for those who have open enrolled to Virtual Schools provided throughout the State of Wisconsin. It is not intended to be an option to opt out of the regular PK-12 school day and programming.

Purpose

Blended Learning programming in the Winter School District comes from the philosophy that children and parents should have choices in education. Education should address the diverse needs of students through innovative curriculum and delivery methods that meet the needs of participating students. Students can best develop intellectually, physically, and socially within a school community that is committed to developing and maintaining strong programs of student-parent-school partnerships.

Delivery Methods

With the ultimate goal is educational accountability, parents choose a delivery model that may include on-line courses, traditional teacher instructed courses held at the Winter School, and/or programming through direct parent instruction. These choices will be defined in an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) developed by parents and the school staff. Curriculum must be aligned with Wisconsin State Academic Standards and the Common Core Standards. Students may participate in age appropriate classes at the school including music, art, physical education, as well as other electives. Extra-curricular activities will be offered to students enrolled in the Blended Learning Program. Parent/guardian attendance for these events will be specific to school building policies.
