1220 - EMPLOYMENT OF SUPERINTENDENT

The Board vests the primary responsibility for the administration of this District in the Superintendent of Schools. The appointment of that officer is, therefore, one of the most important functions the Board can perform.

Whenever the position of Superintendent shall be vacant, the Board shall appoint a Superintendent of Schools as chief executive officer and fix his/her salary and term of office which shall be no more than three (3) years.

As part of the qualifications, the Superintendent shall have as a minimum a master's degree in school administration and shall have had previous experience in school administration. S/He shall hold a Superintendent's certificate.

If, at any time, services are unsatisfactory, notification in writing will be given and an opportunity to correct any shortcomings will be given. If conditions are not changed, s/he shall be notified by the first day of March of the year in which his/her contract expires of the Board's intention not re-employ. Contract shall be renewed at the March board meeting.

The person selected for the position of Superintendent shall be required to pass a physical examination reasonably related to the duties s/he will be required to perform, the cost of which shall be borne by the District.

The Superintendent will maintain a permanent residence within the Willard City School District within six (6) months of time of employment.

Any applicant under final consideration of employment with the Board must complete a DMA form with no positive indications that material assistance has been provided to a terrorist organization before working in the District (see Policy 8120).

Prior to employment, the candidate selected must also pass a background check performed by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
