5514.01 - STUDENT USE OF MOTOR VEHICLES
The Board regards the student use of motor vehicles for travel to and from District programs as an assumption of responsibility on the part of those students; a responsibility in the care of property, in the observation of safety rules; and in the display of courtesy and consideration toward others.
The Board will permit the use of motor vehicles by students, in accordance with the rules of this District, provided that such students are licensed drivers and have been granted permission by the program director to drive a motor vehicle on District premises.
The Board will not be responsible for motor vehicles which are lost, stolen, or damaged.
The Superintendent shall develop administrative guidelines for the operation and parking of motor vehicles and shall disseminate those rules to all students so affected.
The Superintendent shall establish standards for the granting of permits which shall contain the warning that infraction of rules may result in the revocation of the permit.
Transportation for students to and from the Wexford-Missaukee Area Career-Technical Center is provided by the student's home School District. Students must use this transportation. Students are not allowed to drive private vehicles to the Center unless they obtain, from the Center, a permit to drive and have it approved by their home school principal or his/her designee.
Generally, only those students who need personal transportation for employment and/or cooperative education training, or because of physical limitations will be issued driving permits on a long-term basis.
Other student's driving needs will be evaluated on an individual basis. One-day or temporary driving permits may be issued to students for valid purposes on an individual, pre-arranged basis.
The administration of the Center reserves the right to prohibit the use of personal transportation by individuals who abuse the privilege by the careless operation of vehicles on Center property. If necessary, for reasons such as constant tardiness, or reckless or careless driving, driving permits will be revoked.
The speed limit on drives and parking lots is limited to 10 miles per hour. Students may not occupy automobiles in the school lot except to enter and to leave the Center grounds.
