The Board of Education believes that support staff members can develop increased competence, beyond that which they may attain through the performance of their assigned duties, by attending staff development meetings.

For purposes of this policy, a staff development meeting shall be defined as any meeting that is related to the activities, duties, or responsibilities of support staff members as determined by the Superintendent and/or a meeting through which direct value can be derived for the person in attendance for later use in the performance of District duties.

Support staff members may be reimbursed for expenses incurred while attending staff development meetings that are approved in accordance with Board Policy 4440 – Reimbursement of Job-Related Expenses.

The Superintendent shall prepare administrative guidelines to implement this policy.
