1230 - SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The Superintendent of Schools shall strive to achieve District goals for students by providing educational direction and supervision to the professional staff and supervision to the nonteaching staff and by acting as a proper model for staff and students both in the school and outside the District.
Duties and Responsibilities
| A. | General Duties |
| 1. | attends all Board meetings | |||
| 2. | administers the schools in conformity with Board policies, rules, and regulations of the State Board of Education, and laws of the State of Ohio | |||
| 3. | is responsible for the administration and supervision of the school system and is the professional leader of the Board and teaching staff | |||
| 4. | prepares and presents to the Board information relative to proposed school policies; presents evaluation information as necessary | |||
| 5. | is responsible for long-range curriculum development for the school system | |||
| 6. | serves as the leader in devising ways of keeping the public informed about the schools |
| B. | Employment of Personnel |
| 1. | recommends employment of all personnel | |||
| 2. | assigns and supervises all personnel | |||
| 3. | recommends employees for promotion, demotion, or transfer | |||
| 4. | reports to the Board on staff evaluations, and serves as the final reviewing authority for the Board | |||
| 5. | recommends staff dismissals when necessary |
| C. | Adoption of Textbooks |
| 1. | appoints instructor committees to review textbooks and make recommendations | |||
| 2. | purchase books, arranges for their distribution and care |
| D. | Preparation of Budget |
| 1. | prepares the annual budget in collaboration with the Treasurer | |||
| 2. | submits the budget to the Board | |||
| 3. | administers the budget as approved |
| E. | Special Use of School Building |
| 1. | prepare plan for use of building | |||
| 2. | receives applications and lets buildings in accordance with plan adopted by the Board |
| F. | Salary Schedule | ||
| assigns salaries to teachers and other employees on basis of negotiated salary schedules | |||
| G. | Supplies and Equipment |
| 1. | recommends supplies needed on basis of their contribution to efficient operation of the school system and benefit to instructional program | |||
| 2. | makes purchases; arranges for use and care of supplies and equipment |
| H. | Course of Study |
| 1. | recommends course of study | |||
| 2. | places course of study into operation | |||
| 3. | recommends additions and changes as need arises | |||
| 4. | reports to Board on progress and evaluation of course of study |
| I. | Miscellaneous Duties |
| 1. | prepares an agenda for each Board meeting in collaboration with the Treasurer and Board President | |||
| 2. | develops inservice training programs and other suitable means for teacher improvement and education | |||
| 3. | prepares the school calendar for the ensuing school year for presentation to the Board for its approval and adoption | |||
| 4. | attends such professional meetings as are necessary and important to continued professional growth, and for the improvement of the organization and administration of the schools | |||
| 5. | performs such other duties as the Board may determine |
