5421.01 - WEIGHTED GRADES
In recognition of the additional effort that Advanced Placement (AP), dual college enrollment, and other rigorous courses require, an additional graded point may be awarded. This means that in the traditional 4.0 grading scale, students in weighted courses may receive up to 5.0 points. To receive this additional grade point, courses must be approved prior to enrollment.
High School Weighted Course Eligibility
Weighted credit for high school courses is generally awarded to:
| A. | a culminating course | ||
| B. | a course that exceeds current offerings in a core curricular content area | ||
| C. | an advanced placement course in a core area (Math, Social Science, Science, or English). AP classes may be offered locally or through distance learning, with prior approval. It is expected that upon completion of the course the AP exam will be taken. |
Dual Enrollment Weighted Course Eligibility
To receive weighted high school credit in dual enrollment programs as a current student, both the student and the class must qualify. The student must meet the criteria for dual enrollment, and the course must be approved for weighted credit as referenced in the Michigan Department of Education’s College Level Equivalent Course Directory.
The student’s selected college course/s must meet all of the following criteria in order to be weighted:
