8220 - SCHOOL DAY

The Board of Education authorizes the school day to be arranged and scheduled by the administration. It is to offer the maximum education for the time spent within the limitations of school facilities and the laws and regulations of the State.

The Superintendent may close the schools, delay the opening of school, or dismiss school early when such alteration in the regular session is required for the protection of the health and safety of students and staff members. S/He shall prepare administrative guidelines for the proper and timely notification of concerned persons in the event of any emergency closing of the schools.

The Superintendent shall have the authority to determine which school-related activities may be conducted if the schools are closed for a period of time. S/He shall prepare appropriate guidelines for communication to students, parents, and others regarding the scheduling and the conduct of such activities.

School sponsored activities shall be completed no later than 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays as to allow for family activities. In the event that a school-sponsored activity must be rescheduled to a Wednesday night, the Superintendent shall approve on a case-by-case basis the allowance of such an activity, based on the merits of the request.

 A.Sunday use of buildings and grounds shall be determined by the building principal in consultation with the local Superintendent. The Sunday use of the buildings and grounds shall not be for commercial activities and shall not be approved for use during regular church hours unless those seeking use of such buildings and grounds are church-associated activities. Exceptions to this policy may be granted by Board approval.

 B.The admission to school premises of any persons under the influence of alcohol beverages or in the possession of such, shall be strictly forbidden.

 C.Youth organizations using grounds, buildings, and facilities must have adult supervision.

 D.The employment of a cook when kitchen facilities are used shall be determined by the building principal and paid by the organization using the facilities according to fee schedules.
