5130.01 - EARLY DISMISSAL OF SENIORS
The R. C. permits a Board of Education to adopt a policy that will allow graduating seniors to be excused up to three (3) days early at the end of their senior year.
The Wayne Trace Board of Education, because the Legislation is permissive in nature, views the early dismissal as a privilege for students and not as an inherent right.
Therefore, the Board will permit the high school principal to formulate and administer a plan that will provide for early dismissal of seniors providing certain conditions are met.
Seniors may elect to take final exams. Those doing so will notify the high school principal of their intent to take all or part of the exams by such a date as determined by the principal. Those electing or required to take exams will also be required to attend review sessions.
The high school principal may revoke the privilege of early dismissal for a graduating senior if such senior:
| A. | participates in a skip day; | ||
| B. | violates the Wayne Trace Code of Conduct; | ||
| C. | has an unacceptable attendance record as described below and/or total of three (3) absences from a class for any reason during a semester unless: |
| 1. | student is in the hospital; | |||
| 2. | confined to home by doctor's orders and a doctor's note stating such is presented to the proper school office; | |||
| 3. | special cases will be taken under advisement by the principal in advance of the absence. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT TO DISCUSS ANY DAY OF ABSENTEEISM OTHER THAN THOSE STATED IN 1 AND 2 ABOVE WITH THE BUILDING PRINCIPAL PRIOR TO THE DAY OF ABSENTEEISM. |
Seniors that are required to take final exams and fail to do so, will have credits withheld until the requirement is fulfilled.
If graduation is prior to final exams, those electing or required to take final exams, will not receive a signed diploma until the final exam requirement is met.
For the purpose of this policy, early dismissal is to be interpreted as those days normally set aside for review and final exams.
