9270.01 - DISTRICT ENROLLMENT OR RE-ENROLLMENT OF STUDENTS FROM HOME EDUCATION
| A. | The District shall enroll or re-enroll a child who has been home educated without discrimination or prejudice. The Superintendent shall determine the appropriate placement of such students in accordance with R.C. 3319.01. | ||
| B. | Students enrolling full-time or part-time must be residents of the District and follow regular school enrollment requirements. | ||
| C. | Grade placement will be made by the Superintendent or designated building principal based upon: |
| 1. | Review of the child’s most recent annual academic assessment report. | |||
| 2. | The age of the child. | |||
| 3. | Require the child to take any or all of the nationally-normed, standardized achievement tests, competency-based educational tests that are regularly scheduled for District students of similar age. | |||
| 4. | Other evaluation information that may include, but is not limited to, year-end finals, periodic grade level assessments, interviews with the child and/or parent(s)/guardian(s), and review of the student’s work portfolio. |
| D. | Returning students will be encouraged to re-enter at the beginning of a grading period. | ||
| E. | Athletic eligibility will be determined by OHSAA regulation and the city school athletic policies. A period of physical conditioning may be required before participation. | ||
| F. | Awarding course credits at the high school level and placement at elementary and middle school for work completed during approved home education will be determined by the following: |
| 1. | The building principal, counselor, teachers, and others as deemed appropriate by the building principal, will review all pertinent information and make a decision concerning class placement and awarding credits for work completed while home educated. This award is final. | |||
| 2. | Parents must provide an academic assessment report for each class taken. This information will include, but is not limited to: |
| a. | a portfolio of work done; | ||||
| b. | sample tests and test scores; | ||||
| c. | resources and books used in the class; | ||||
| d. | samples of student work; | ||||
| e. | standardized test scores; | ||||
| f. | courses of study; | ||||
| g. | the number of hours of course work in each subject; | ||||
| h. | grades from previous school. |
| 3. | All home education courses will be given a grade of S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory). | |||
| 4. | A student may be required to take any or all of the nationally-normed, standardized achievement tests that are regularly scheduled for district students of similar age. | |||
| 5. | Other evaluation information that may include interviews with the child and/or parent(s)/guardian(s). | |||
| 6. | Parents may request that their child be administered a semester or final exam to help determine awarding of credit. |
| G. | All students wishing to graduate from Wapakoneta City School District must pass the Ninth Grade Proficiency Test and/or the 10th grade proficiency test when requested by the State and meet all other state and district graduation requirements. | ||
| H. | A student must be enrolled full-time in an accredited high school for the last three (3) semesters of high school in order to graduate with a diploma. | ||
| I. | A student’s grade point average will be established for award and class rank purposes only after the student has attended an accredited high school for three (3) consecutive semesters prior to the beginning of the second semester of the student’s senior year. | ||
| J. | Eligibility for National Honor Society will be established only after two (2) consecutive semesters prior to the semester in which induction is made. |
