1230 - SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The Superintendent of Schools shall have a license of qualification from the Division of Teacher Education and Licensing of the State Department of Education.
The administration of the school system in all its aspects shall be delegated to the Superintendent, who shall carry out his/her administrative functions in accordance with the policies adopted by the Board. The execution of all decisions made by the Board concerning the internal operation of the school system shall be delegated to the Superintendent. (R.C. 3319.01, Text 59.02-59.13)
Duties and Responsibilities
| A. | S/He is the chief executive officer of the Board of Education and is responsible for carrying out the policies of the Board of Education; has the authority granted and the responsibility imposed by the laws of Ohio. | ||
| B. | S/He administers the schools in conformity with the adopted policies of the Board, the rules and regulations of the State Department of Education and the provisions of law. | ||
| C. | S/He has charge of the administration and supervision of the school system and is the professional leader of the Board and the teaching staff. | ||
| D. | S/He attends all meetings and presents to the Board: |
| 1. | such information as is needed or requested in the formation of school policies; | |||
| 2. | proposed policies for deliberation; | |||
| 3. | such information as is necessary for appraisal. |
| E. | S/He recommends to the Board all personnel, except the Treasurer of the Board of Education. | ||
| F. | S/He assigns and supervises teachers. | ||
| G. | With the aide of the principals, s/he evaluates and reports to the Board on success of teachers. | ||
| H. | S/He recommends dismissals when necessary. | ||
| I. | After careful study of the books available, with the assistance of teachers, principals and supervisors, selects books for recommendation to the Board. | ||
| J. | S/He prepares the budget with the aid of the staff and Treasurer and submits it to the Board for its approval. | ||
| K. | S/He administers the budget as approved. | ||
| L. | S/He formulates the salary schedule in connection with the budget and makes recommendations to the Board. | ||
| M. | S/He assigns salaries to teachers and nonteaching employees on the basis of the salary schedule adopted by the Board. | ||
| N. | S/He makes recommendations for supplies needed on the basis of their contribution to efficient instruction. | ||
| O. | S/He recommends for the Board's consideration matters relative to the course of study, textbooks, apparatus and libraries of the schools. | ||
| P. | S/He approves the repair and maintenance program of the school system. | ||
| Q. | S/He approves the purchases of all building equipment and maintenance and repair supplies. | ||
| R. | S/He shall direct and assign teachers and other employees of the schools under his/her supervision, except as provided by law. | ||
| S. | Any other duties as assigned by the Board of Education. |
