3130.02 - JOB SHARING
Upon request of the teacher and the approval of the building principal, job sharing may be considered.
Job sharing shall be defined as two (2) certified elementary teachers sharing one (1), full-time position for a school year.
Provisions:
| A. | Job sharing assignments shall be filled only by teachers who have mutually agreed to work together. | ||
| B. | Job sharing assignments may be granted upon mutual agreement of the principal and the Superintendent, and upon School Board approval. | ||
| C. | Administration and job sharing participants shall determine the feasibility of each shared assignment in the specific building. | ||
| D. | A decision to grant a job share request will consider the potential impact on instruction, student learning, and the overall staffing impact of the building. | ||
| E. | Job sharing positions will involve both teachers sharing the instructional day equally. Consistency in the students’ instructional program will be facilitated by a clear division of curriculum responsibilities as determined by the job sharing team and the principal. | ||
| F. | Request for a job sharing assignment shall be submitted in writing to the building principal on or before February 1st. | ||
| G. | Job sharing teams will be notified by May 15th if the job sharing request has been granted. | ||
| H. | Both teachers of a job sharing team shall be required to participate in all regularly scheduled staff meetings, staff in-service days, open houses, back-to-school events, parent-teacher conferences, case conferences, school improvement meetings, and any other meetings that are considered to be reasonable and are within the expectations of all full-time teachers. Building principals shall approve any excused absences from such meetings. Additional compensation shall not be provided to job share teachers who are required to attend meetings that are not held during their normal job share teaching hours. | ||
| I. | Job share teachers shall be compensated at their contract rate of pay multiplied by fifty percent (50%). Job share teachers shall not be permitted to teach less than half (1/2) time. The job sharing team shall not be permitted to receive compensation which equals more than the equivalent of one (1) full time teaching position. | ||
| J. | Job share teachers shall receive fifty percent (50%) of the annual health insurance premiums, and one-hundred percent (100%) of the Long Term Disability and Life Insurance premiums that would be paid by the School Board if the teachers were full-time teachers. | ||
| K. | All short-term benefits such as sick, personal, and family leave days shall be credited at one-hundred percent (100%) of the benefits received by a full-time teacher; these days will also be used as a full day for each calendar day. | ||
| L. | Job share teachers shall be placed and advanced on the appropriate salary schedule based on their years of experience and shall be eligible for steps and increments on the salary schedule providing they complete a year of service as defined in the Master Contract. | ||
| M. | All job share assignments shall be for one (1) school year. Once approved by the Board, the assignments shall not change or terminate during the school year for which it was approved except in cases of resignation, termination of employment, or commencement of an approved leave of absence. | ||
| N. | Consideration for renewal of the job share assignments shall be done on an annual basis. Requests for renewal of a job share assignment must be submitted to the building principal by February 1st. | ||
| O. | Requests by one (1) or both job share teachers to return to a full-time position for the following year shall be submitted in writing to the Superintendent by February 1st. | ||
| P. | In the event that one (1) or both job share teachers requests a return to a full-time position for the following school year and providing that a suitable full-time position is available, the School Corporation shall consider such a request before hiring someone not employed by the Corporation to fill an available position for which the job sharer is certified. | ||
| Q. | The Administration reserves the right to revoke their job share agreement with the teachers involved at the end of each school year. Notification shall be given on or before February 1st. |
