3411 - PLACEMENT ON SALARY SCHEDULE

The Board of Education retains the authority to specify the salary of new positions and to determine the credit to be awarded for placement on the District's salary schedule, in accordance with any applicable terms in the negotiated agreement.

The Superintendent may arrange credit for past service of each new staff member for proper placement on the salary schedule on the following basis:

 A.all years of teaching service in the same school district or educational service center, regardless of training level, with each year consisting of at least 120 days under a teacher's contract

 B.one (1) year of teaching service (not more than ten (10)) as a certified teacher in a chartered, nonpublic school in Ohio or in another public school, regardless of training level, with each year consisting of at least 120 days under a teacher's contract

 C.not more than five (5) years for active military experience which must be eight (8) continuous months of service to be recognized as a year of authorized experience

Credit will not be given for substitute teaching except as required by Policy 3120.04 or State law.

The Superintendent is also authorized to credit, to a maximum of three (3) years, past service in:

 A.a private school located in any other state or U.S. territory;

 B.an overseas dependent school operated by the U.S. Armed Forces;

 C.a school approved by the State Department of Education and operated by a State Agency;

 D.a college, university, or related work experience;

 E.a position as an educational aide.

New staff members who have been certified by the State to perform professional services in the public and nonpublic schools of Ohio, but who have not yet earned a baccalaureate degree, shall be placed on zero (0) step of the salary schedule.
