2511 - SELECTION OF LIBRARY MATERIALS
The purpose of the library is to provide a wide variety of educational and recreational materials and services to meet the needs of all students.
The purpose of the materials selection policy is to aid in the wise selection of print and non-print materials that will assist students with varying abilities, skills and interests in the pursuit of an education, the search for information, the enjoyable use of leisure time, and to support the teacher in achieving the goals of the educational program.
The selection of materials involves librarians, administrators, curriculum personnel, teachers and students. The professionally trained librarian coordinates the selection process. Basic to effective selection is criteria that takes into consideration the existing interests of the students, broad knowledge of available materials and equipment and fiscal considerations.
General Criteria for the Selection of:

| C. | Scope - overall purpose and coverage | ||
| D. | Format and Technical Quality - physical makeup of material should be appropriate to its content | ||
| E. | Authenticity - is valid, reliable, complete, and up-to-date and the degree of bias or objectivity | ||
| F. | Treatment and Arrangement - material should be clearly presented in a well-organized fashion | ||
| G. | Aesthetic Consideration - artistically acceptable | ||
| H. | Price - must be seen in relation to existing budget | ||
| I. | Special Features - characteristics that make the item under consideration unique, for example, an unusual approach to subject matter, presence of usage guides, sets of questions and answers or list of suggested follow-up activities |
