2440 - SUMMER SCHOOL

The Board of Education may conduct a summer program of academic instruction at all grade levels.

Academic instruction in summer school may be designed to provide opportunities for students to:

 A.improve content knowledge;

 B.improve learning skills;

 C.make up a failed course;

 D.enrich a scholastic program;

 E.explore new academic areas.

In order to support a program of summer school instruction, the Board shall annually:

 A.employ teachers;

 B.utilize school facilities as required;

 C.provide necessary custodial services;

 D.assess tuition to cover operational costs.

Students eligible for the summer school of this District shall include resident students eligible for regular attendance in the public schools of this District and nonresident students as space is available. Non-resident students may be charged a higher rate.

With regard to transportation, the Board does not accept responsibility for any student.

The Board shall provide a Federal food service program for students during summer intervention programs that are mandated under Federal law. The Board will offer a food service program during:

 A.summer remediation provided to students who scored lower than "proficient" on the third grade reading achievement test;

 B.summer intervention services provided to students who took practice versions of the Ohio Graduation Tests in ninth grade; and

 C.any future summer intervention programs required under law.

If the Board determines that it is unable to provide a Federal food service program during the summer, for financial reasons, the Board will communicate that decision to its residents in a manner it determines to be appropriate.

The Superintendent shall be responsible for developing administrative guidelines for the operation of the summer school which shall be consistent with Board policies, and ensure that the operation of summer school does not conflict in any way with the administration of the regular school sessions of the District.
