5140 - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LUNCH PERIOD(S) (Introduction)
The following Board policy on the elementary school lunch period(s) is a significant statement and is the product of an extensive survey and thorough review by the Noon Hour Task Force. The Board strongly urges that elementary students not be given permission to go to commercial establishments during the lunch period(s), except if the student is accompanied by a parent/guardian.*

Elementary School Lunch Period(s) Statement |
Elementary students must eat at school or go to their home(s) for lunch. If an exception is to occur, the parent must inform the school in writing and the principal or designee must grant permission. Said permission is subject to restrictions by the principal or designee. When a student leaves the school during the lunch period, the parent and the student become responsible for the student’s behavior and safety.
If a student leaves school during the lunch period, without parental permission, to go to a destination other than home, the student has violated this policy on the elementary school lunch period(s) and is subject to disciplinary action. The first violation would result in a telephone contact with the student’s parent. The second violation would be regarded as a minor infraction as found in the Students’ Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Copies of this handbook are made available through the office of the building principal.
*Hereinafter parent/guardian will be referred to as parent.
