3170.01 - EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)

The Board recognizes that life problems may have a significant effect at times upon an employee's ability to perform the essential functions of his/her job. Both the individual and school system suffer as a result. When these problems relate to emotional or family issues or to abuse of or addiction to alcohol or other drugs, the Board is committed to helping employees by establishing a program which makes available appropriate services.

The program shall be titled the Employee Assistance Program as a method of identifying it with similar programs in business and industry. The Program shall be voluntary for and available to all personnel and their families. The Program shall promote awareness, prevention, intervention and referral and short-term (three (3) sessions or less) treatment services. Although long-term treatment is basically the responsibility of the individual, some treatment services may be fully or partially covered by medical insurance provided through the Board.

Participation in the Program or in resulting treatment is voluntary and confidential. Any employee actions related to such participation will not jeopardize job security or promotion. However, when life problems significantly affect job performance, appropriate action, up to and including termination from employment, may need to be taken by the Administration and Board.
