1638 - HOLIDAYS AND VACATIONS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL ON A 240-DAY CONTRACT

Full-time administrative personnel employed on a 240-day basis shall be responsible for all working days during the year beginning August 1 with provision for holidays and vacations as follows:

A.

Holidays

All full-time administrative personnel on a 240-day contract shall be entitled to the holidays annually established by the Board of Education as part of the official school calendar. In addition, they shall be entitled to any other days when, in conjunction with holiday periods, school buildings are officially closed through negotiated agreements or by direction of the Board or the Superintendent.

B.

Vacations

All full-time administrative personnel on a 240-day contract shall be entitled to an annual vacation of nineteen (19) DAYS. These days shall be scheduled at the convenience of the school system, and specific dates shall be approved by the Superintendent. Since the intent of vacation is physical and psychological renewal of the employee, vacation may not be accrued from one year to another except as indicated below. Mutual efforts shall be extended to see that earned vacation time is taken within the time limitations.

For purposes of counting vacation days, the year shall run from August 1 through July 31. For convenience of the school system and the employee, the employee shall be allowed until July 31 of the ensuing year to use the earned vacation days. Any earned vacation time accrued in the previous contract year, but unused as of July 31 of the then current year, shall be lost as of that date except as indicated below:

Full-time, 240-day administrators are eligible in August to apply for reimbursement at their daily rate of pay for up to three (3) days of unused vacation days from the previous just-completed contractual year. The Superintendent will review with the requesting administrator, the reasons and rationale for the request. A final decision on the request will be made by the Superintendent following the meeting with the administrator. The Superintendent and Treasurer will also develop an appropriate budgeting process for paying this benefit.
