3412 - TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE INCREMENTS

A teacher who qualifies under the Board of Education’s collective bargaining agreement with the Upper Arlington Education Association and applies for a new training increment within five (5) contract days after the beginning of a school year will be paid the full increment over the course of that school year beginning with the September 25th pay. The increment will be divided evenly by the number of pay periods to determine the installment paid the teacher each pay period (for those employees with twenty-four (24) pay periods a double installment will be paid with the September 25 paycheck. A teacher who qualifies and applies for anew training increment by September 15th of a school year will be paid the full increment over the course of that school year, starting with the October 25th pay (a multiple installment will be include din the October 25th paycheck to make the employee current and a single installment will be paid in each remaining paycheck.) A teacher who qualifies and applies for a new training increment within five (5) contract days after January 1st will be paid five-ninths (5/9) of the full increment for that school year in equal installments starting with the January 25th pay (a double installment will be paid with the January 25th check.) A teacher who qualifies and applies for anew training increment within five (5) contract days after April 1st will be paid two-ninths (2/9) of the full increment for that school year in equal installments, starting with the April 25th pay a double installment will be paid with the April 25th pay.

Applications for training increments adjustments must be in writing and must be submitted to the Executive Director for Personnel Services by the deadlines stated I this regulation. Copies of gradeslips or transcripts are necessary to substantiate the application and must be forwarded to the Executive Director for Personnel Services as soon as they are available.

Experience Increments (Vertical Placements

Years of experience on the teachers’ salary schedule for verified part-time service will be granted on the following basis:

 A.Credit may only be given with respect to the 1984-85 and subsequent school years thereafter.

 B.The part-time service must have been rendered as a regular or substitute employee in this District or another Ohio public school district or in a chartered nonpublic school located in Ohio in a position for which a license is issued and required pursuant to Ohio R.C. 3319.22. Credit will not be given for service in a nonpublic school not chartered by the State of Ohio; or service in other than a K – 12 program.

 C.One (1) year of service must consist of the equivalent of 120 full days within one (1) school year or any consecutive or nonconsecutive period up to four (4) years designated by the employee. Part-time service in a school year may only be counted once to obtain vertical placement salary schedule credit.

 D.Salary schedule credit will be determined by aggregating the number of full days or partial days in the designated one (1) to four (4) year period. If the full-time equivalent total equals or exceeds 120 days, one (1) year of salary schedule credit will be granted.

 E.No more than 120 days of credit can be accumulated in a school year for vertical placement salary schedule credit purposes.

 F.To receive credit, the employee shall request such credit in writing and submit supporting documentation of part-time service satisfactory to the Executive Director for Personnel Services. Credit shall be given on the salary schedule effective with the first day of the school year following the date the Executive Director receives the request. No payment will be made for those years after an employee earned the equivalent of 120 days of part-time credit but prior to the employee’s written request.

 G.Nothing in this policy shall be construed to conflict with the Board’s collective bargaining agreement with the Upper Arlington Education Association.
