3160B - TUBERCULOSIS EXAMINATION

Each professional staff member of the School District shall file with the Personnel Office proof of freedom from communicable tuberculosis according to law and the administrative guidelines of the Ohio Department of Public Health.

The statement of freedom from communicable tuberculosis shall be filed prior to the first day of employment and thereafter as required by law.

Such statement of freedom from communicable tuberculosis and the results of any and all tuberculosis examinations shall be maintained in a separate, confidential personnel file and shall be available for examination by Department of Public Health personnel and the Superintendent or his/her designee.

If a professional staff member is found to be ill or suffering from tuberculosis in a communicable stage, the Executive Director for Personnel Services shall promptly send such professional staff member home with a statement briefly setting forth the discovered facts and advising that a physician be consulted. The professional staff member's employment shall be discontinued or suspended upon such terms as to salary as the Board deems just, until such time that s/he provides written evidence of recovery from the disease from a reputable physician and/or until the school physician has certified that the staff member has recovered. If the professional staff member presents a written certificate from a reputable physician within two (2) weeks of receiving notice from the Board, further examination by the school physician will not be required. Such written certificate and the results of any and all tuberculosis examinations shall not be open to the public, shall be maintained in a separate, confidential personnel file, and shall be available for examination by Department of Public Health personnel and the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Expenses associated with this administrative guideline shall be the responsibility of the staff member.
