2430 - DISTRICT-SPONSORED CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

Each building principal is responsible for the entire co-curricular program of his/her school (see Form 2430 F2). The principal shall take a leadership role in initiating, improving, and terminating co-curricular activities for both boys ad girls in such a way that consideration is given both to expressed students’ interests and to the principal’s judgment as to what kinds of activities should be provided and promoted in the school.

The advisor of each activity shall submit to the principal, in writing, purposes and objectives for the activity. Rules and regulations written for each activity must reflect and be consistent with the stated purposes and objectives, the functional involvement of students in the activities, and Board policies. These statements shall be reviewed annually by the principal with the advisor and are subject to review by the Superintendent if the principal or Superintendent desires a review. The statements must be on file in the building housing the program and in the Superintendent’s office.

Rules may be amended by the advisor or coach with standards stated above with the concurrence of the principal. The participants must be notified of such changes immediately.

All participants will be subject to the rules and regulations of the respective state and national organizations if the school which the participants attend is a member of said organization.

Participants will be advised in writing of all regulations by their respective advisors or coaches prior to their participation in order for each student to determine the feasibility of such participation.

Rules and regulations are subject to appeal either by the participant, advisor, or coach through his/her building principal, and, if necessary, the Superintendent.

Activities must be carefully organized and administered for girls and boys with regard to facilities, times allotted, and equipment. Consideration should be given to expressed interest and the number of participants. However, facilities should not be preferentially used by any individual activity with regard to total time of use and preferred times.

Interscholastic athletic programs should be limited to the junior and senior high levels. Elementary activities in the field of athletics should be limited to skill development and intramural programs commensurate with the physical and psychological development of the girls and boys.
