| Administrative Guidelines |
2262 - SCHOOL-AGE CHILD CARE ENROLLMENT GUIDELINES
To insure the safety of the children, integrity of the program, and the quality of regular K – 5 initiatives, School-Age Child Care (SACC) enrollment will be determined by:
| A. | Space – The quantity of primary1, secondary2, and storage3 space that is available for the program. |
| 1. | Preliminary decisions regarding space allocations will be reached as a result of mutual agreement between the building principal and SACC Director. | |||
| 2. | Final decisions on space allocations will be subject to review and approval by the Superintendent. | |||
| 3. | A site must have a minimum of thirty-five (35) square feet of indoor primary space per child |
| B. | Staff – The number of staff members required to monitor the children. |
| 1. | Morning (A.M.) Program | |||
| The teacher/child ratio shall be at least one (1) staff member per eighteen (18) school age children (Grades K – 5) | ||||
| 2. | Afternoon (P.M.) Program | |||

Primary Space means space that is always available to and used exclusively by SACC. Such space may only be used by others when SACC is not in session (e.g., cafeterias, auditoriums, music rooms, and multi-purpose rooms).2
Secondary Space refers to space that cannot be classified Primary because, while it may be ordinarily assigned to SACC, it may be scheduled for occasional use by others (e.g., gymnasiums, classrooms, cafeterias, and libraries).3
Storage Space refers to space for program equipment and supplies as well as student and staff belongs.| 3. | Each program site will have one (1) supervisor. Exceptions can be made by the SACC Director if two (2) qualified staff members are available to jointly share the responsibilities defined in the supervisor’s position description. | |||
| 4. | Each program site will have at least one assistant supervisor, unless two (2) supervisors are on site. | |||
| 5. | Each program site supervisor and assistant will have teacher aides assigned as necessary to maintain the 1:18 teacher/child ratio. |
| C. | Enrollment – The applicants accepted into the program. |
| 1. | The program will be available only to children enrolled in the Upper Arlington Board of Education’s K – 5 program. | |||
| 2. | Priority registration will include current families and those on the wait list. Siblings are accommodated if at all possible. next priority (Open Enrollment) will be given to all other applicants. This includes current Emergency Card holders. | |||
| 3. | The maximum number of children in attendance at one time at a program site should not exceed the number that will provide safety, group cohesiveness, productivity, and quality programming. This number will be recommended by the SACC Director to the Superintendent for final approval. | |||
| 4. | If registration requests exceed the space and/or staff available, wait lists will be established by program site. This number will not exceed ten (10) per site. Placement on the lists will be by lottery. Families will be contacted in order when vacancies occur. If the number on the list exceeds that which is deemed reasonable for projected turnover, the SACC Director will inform applicants. |
