2416 - PROCEDURES FOR INSPECTION OF MATERIALS USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANY SURVEY, ANALYSIS, OR EVALUATION
The following procedures should be used when a parent makes a request to inspect materials used in conjunction with any survey, analysis, or nonsecure evaluation instrument that the District proposes to administer to his/her child.
The parent should contact the principal to schedule an appointment to review and inspect the material that will be used in conjunction with this survey, analysis, or nonsecure evaluation instrument. If, upon inspection and review, at his/her discretion, the parent can refuse to have his/her child participate in the survey, analysis, or nonsecure evaluation instrument.
Furthermore, if, upon inspection and review, a parent would like to file a complaint about the materials used in conjunction with any such survey, analysis, or nonsecure evaluation instrument, the person shall follow the complaint procedures outlined in Policy 9130 and AG 9130.
Educational Research
Educationally valuable research conducted by qualified individuals or groups representing colleges, universities, and other educational agencies is encouraged. In order to assure that students and staff are protected from unreasonable requests and because of the large number of outside requests for research, certain guidelines have been established for approving research requests.
All requests are to be initiated through the Assistant Superintendent. Some of the criteria that will be considered include:
| A. | the project design should be such that valid and reliable results may be reasonable expected; | ||
| B. | the findings should be expected to contribute useful information for improvement of education; | ||
| C. | research proposals must avoid seeking information that would violate policies set forth in the "Students Rights and Responsibilities" document; | ||
| D. | have time demands or undue interruptions of staff or students either in or out of the classroom setting are to be avoided. |
More specifically, the following procedures must be followed in requesting consideration for conducting research in the District:
| A. | The Assistant Superintendent reviews the research proposal. | ||
| B. | The researcher provides an official introductory correspondence requesting involvement with our District, a summary of the proposed research, and a complete copy of the research proposal. | ||
| C. | After review of the research proposal and consultation with other knowledgeable District staff, the Assistant Superintendent conveys final approval or disapproval regarding District involvement to the researcher and other appropriate officials. |
