5610.03 - TEACHER INITIATED SUSPENSION
A teacher may suspend a student from his/her class, subject, or activity for up to one (1) full school day for any conduct defined in the school's Student Code of Conduct which has implications for suspension or removal from class. This also includes any other conduct which disrupts the teaching and learning process occurring in the classroom. The teacher must immediately report the suspension to his/her principal and send the student to the office for appropriate action by the principal. As soon as possible after the teacher initiated suspension, the teacher shall ask the parent or guardian of the student to attend a parent-teacher conference. A written report stating the outcome of the parent-teacher meeting will be sent to all participating parties and the principal by the classroom teacher. The counselor, psychologist, school social worker, and principal may attend the conference upon the request of the parent or teacher. The student shall not be returned that school day to the class, subject, or activity from which s/he was suspended without the concurrence of the teacher of the class, subject, or activity and the school principal. This policy does not negate the discretion of the administrator to impose a longer suspension.
