2422 - HUMAN RELATIONS

It is the policy of the District to foster good human relations through its instructional programs, its student activities, and school climate. The Board directs the Superintendent to ensure that the District will provide an equal opportunity for all children to achieve their maximum potential through positive interactions regardless of race, color, creed, handicap, religion, sex, ancestry, national origin, place of residence, or social or economic background.

The Board hereby recognizes the significance of racial and ethnic awareness as part of the instruction and training of each student and encourages and supports the following approaches to human relations education:

 A.The school should work for an integration of ideas, people, and material resources to provide the best education to meet the demands of present and future society.

 B.Methods and techniques of classroom teaching should emphasize the similarities and likenesses of people of various backgrounds and cultures.

 C.The curriculum for all students should present in context the accomplishments and contributions of all races and cultures, including the multicultural nature of our cities, our country, and our world.

 D.Each member of the educational community shall be treated with dignity and respect. Every individual shall be given the tools necessary to learn and be stimulated so as to develop an awareness of the intrinsic value and dignity of each person.
