In accordance with statute, all employees employed by the Summit County ESC prior to January 1, 2005, and who present evidence of retirement from active service shall be granted severance pay for their accrued but unused sick leave days. All employees employed after January 1, 2005, who have been employed by the Summit County ESC for five (5) consecutive years, and who present evidence of retirement from active service immediately at the conclusion of that service, shall be granted severance pay for their accrued but unused sick leave days.

The Board authorizes the payment to a retiring employee of one-third (1/3) unused sick leave days up to a maximum of fifty-three (53).

For purposes of this policy "retirement" means retirement under State Teachers Retirement System and does not include disability retirement.
