1220.01 - EMPLOYMENT OF A LOCAL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

The Superintendent by law shall recommend for employment or reemployment all persons for the position of a local district superintendent in this educational service center.

The Superintendent shall actively seek the best qualified and most capable candidate for the position of local district superintendent. Recruitment procedures shall be prepared in advance of the search and may include the following:

 A.the preparation of a written job specification for the position

 B.the preparation of informative material describing the school district and its educational goals

 C.the solicitation of applications from a wide geographical area

 D.the consideration of all applicants fairly without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, age, religion, ethnic background, disability, or other condition unrelated to the position

 E.where feasible, the opportunity for applicants to visit the school(s) of the district

 F.the requirement that each serious candidate for the position be interviewed by the Superintendent

The Superintendent shall recommend to the local district board the best candidate for the position.

The local board shall appoint a candidate recommended by the Superintendent, except that three-fourths (3/4's) of the full membership of the board, after considering two (2) nominations for the position of local superintendent made by the Superintendent, may employ or reemploy a person not so nominated.
