5430.01 - GRADUATION RECOGNITIONS

The Board values excellence and wishes to instill in students the desire to do their best in their educational program. Therefore, it is the policy of the Board to recognize outstanding academic accomplishments.

Recognition

The Board recognizes the following achievements as the minimum acknowledgements at South-Western City Schools’ high school graduation ceremonies at the end of each school year:

 

Valedictorian

-

recognized at the graduation ceremony

       
 

Salutatorian

-

recognized at the graduation ceremony

       
 

Top 25 (CCHS, GCHS, WHS)

Top 15 (FHHS)

-

noted in graduation program and determined on the basis of academic average including cumulative grades through the final grading period of the senior year. The weighted grade system will be used.

       
 

National Honor Society

-

noted in graduation program

       
 

National Technical Honor Society

-

noted in graduation program

       
 

Perfect Attendance – four years

-

recognized at the graduation ceremony through the end of the final grading period

       
 

All A’s – four years

-

recognized at the graduation ceremony – as indicated on transcript/final grade

       
 

Diploma with Honors

-

noted in the graduation program

Selection

All grades, including final examinations, will be included in determining the student with the highest academic average (valedictorian) and the second highest average (salutatorian). The weighted grade system will be used.

Speakers

The number of speakers and the criteria for the selection of speakers shall be determined by each high school.
