5421 - GRADING SCALE

It shall be the policy of the South-Western City School District that grades are given for the purposes of evaluating the progress a student has made in mastering the objectives of the subject and of communicating that progress to the student and his/her parents and others.

In order to establish a common basis for such evaluation, the South-Western City School District grading scale will reflect the following values:

Since the purpose of the grade is to certify a student's academic progress toward the objectives, it is important that teachers give appropriate study and consideration to the effect of including such other aspects of school work as homework and classroom participation in the determination of grades. Grading practices shall be consistent within the grade and/or individual course. Staff development personnel and administrators will discuss grading procedures with teachers in order to develop such consistency.
