5420 - REPORTING STUDENT PROGRESS

Reporting

The Board of Education believes that the cooperation of school and home is a vital ingredient to the growth and education of the student. It recognizes its responsibility to keep parents informed of their student’s progress in school.

The Board directs the establishment of a system of reporting student progress which shall include written reports in grades K to 12, parent conferences with teachers in grades K to 12, and interim reports 1 - 12. The Board requires all appropriate staff members to comply with such a system as part of their teaching responsibility.

Grading

The Board recognizes that a system of grading student achievement can help the student, teachers, and parents to assess with consistency and with fairness the student’s progress toward personal educational goals and to provide students with an incentive for self-evaluation and improvement.

The Board directs that the instructional program of this District include a system of grading for grades K to 12 which is consistent with the educational goals of the District. It is also the responsibility of every teacher to assist students and their parents to understand the grading system and to administer the system according to the official guidelines.

See AG 5410 and AG 5420 for reporting and grading procedures.
