9140 - CITIZEN'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Community participation in the affairs of the schools is important if the School District and the community are to maintain mutual confidence and respect and work together to improve the quality of education for students. The Board will make every effort to identify the wishes of the community and to be responsive, through its actions, to those wishes.

All citizens will be encouraged to express ideas, concerns and judgments about the schools to the school administrations, the staff, to any appointed advisory bodies, and to the Board of Education.

The Superintendent shall appoint an Advisory Committee consisting of all segments of the community representing all phases of community life. The committee will meet with the administrators a minimum of two (2) times a year to advise the Board in the following areas:

A.clarifying general ideas and attitudes held by residents in regard to the schools

B.determining the purposes of courses of study and special services to be provided for students

C.evaluating the extent to which these purposes are being achieved by present policies

D.solving a specific problem or set of closely related problems about which a decision must be made

The Board and the staff will give substantial weight to the advice they receive from this committee regarding selected problems, but will use their best judgment in arriving at decisions.
