5215 - MISSING AND ABSENT CHILDREN
It is the interest of this Board of Education to cooperate with local, state, and national efforts to decrease the number of missing children.
The Superintendent is instructed to promulgate administrative guidelines to accomplish the following:
| A. | The student shall present any records given to him/her from a previous school at the time s/he registers. | |
| B. | Within twenty-four (24) hours after the student's entry into school, a school official shall request student records from the previously attended school. | |
| C. | If the school the student claims to have attended shows no record of the student's attendance, if the records are not received within fourteen (14) days of the date of a request, or if the student does not present certification of birth, the principal or chief administration officer of the school shall notify the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction in that area. | |
| D. | The certification of birth may be a copy of the birth certificate or certification issued pursuant to statutes of another state, territory, possession, or nation or a comparable certificate. | |
| E. | Parent(s)/guardian(s) must notify the school on the day a student is absent unless previous notification has been given in accordance with school procedure for excused absences. The principal or his/her designee is also required to notify a student's parents, custodial parent, guardian, legal custodian or other person responsible for him/her when the student is absent from school. The parent or other responsible person shall be notified by telephone or written notice shall be mailed on the same day that the student is absent. Parents or other responsible persons shall provide the school with their current home and/or work telephone numbers and home addresses, as well as emergency telephone numbers. | |
| F. | Develop Informational Programs for students, parents, and community members relative to missing children issues and matters. |
