5112 - ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In order to better assure that students entering the District will both graduate from high school and complete a career-technical program of studies within two (2) years of entering (for two-year programs) or one (1) year of entering (for one (1) year programs), the Board of Education has approved admission requirements. These admission requirements will be administered as follows:

A.

UNCONDITIONAL ENROLLMENT

Students meeting all admission requirements will be admitted with unconditional enrollment status.

B.

CONDITIONAL ENROLLMENT

Students who do not meet admission requirements at the time of application will be considered and possibly admitted upon approval of the Director if certain conditions are met either prior to beginning a career-technical program or during a specified period of time at the beginning of the career-technical program.

1.

Age –The age requirement may be waived upon the agreement of the Superintendent, the partner school superintendent, and the parent(s) or guardian.

2.

Credits – Students who have not earned the appropriate number of credits prior to application but who meet all other admission requirements will be advised as to various opportunities to make up credit deficiencies prior to August 10th of the enrollment year. These opportunities will include summer school, Virtual Learning Academy classes, and/or correspondence courses.

A written plan for making up credit deficiencies will be prepared and signed by a District guidance counselor and will include input from the supervisor for the preferred program, partner school counselor, the student, and the parent(s) or guardian. A place will be held for the student in his/her preferred program until August 10th, provided the program is not filled with students on unconditional enrollment. The student's status will be re-evaluated after August 10th. If the necessary credits have been earned, the student will be admitted to the program with unconditional status.

3.

Attendance – Students who have exceeded the State truancy limit in the previous two (2) school years (outside of days missed with medical excuses) but who meet all other admission requirements may be admitted conditionally provided an educational plan is prepared by the guidance counselor and is signed by the supervisor for the preferred program, the career-technical director, the partner school counselor, the student, and the parent(s) or guardian. This plan will specify how the student will improve attendance, the expected attendance rate, and the length of time for the conditional enrollment. At the end of the agreed-upon term of conditional enrollment, the student's attendance rate will be calculated. If the student's attendance rate is at or above the rate specified in the educational plan, s/he will be granted unconditional enrollment. If the student fails to meet the terms of the educational plan, s/he may be returned to the partner school at the end of the term of the plan.

4.

GPA – Students who do not have a cumulative GPA of 1.5 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application but who meet all other admission requirements may be admitted conditionally provided an educational plan is prepared by the guidance counselor and is signed by the supervisor for the preferred program, the career-technical director, the partner school counselor, the student, and the parent(s) or guardian. This plan will specify how the student will improve his/her GPA and the length of time for the conditional enrollment. At the end of the agreed-upon term of conditional enrollment, the student's cumulative GPA will be determined and, if 1.5 or higher, s/he will be granted unconditional enrollment. If the student fails to attain a cumulative GPA of 1.5, s/he may be returned to the partner school at the end of the conditional enrollment.

5.

Tech Prep Programs – GPA and attendance requirements for tech prep programs are set by the post-secondary institution. Students must meet all requirements prior to admission and cannot be admitted to tech prep programs with conditional status.
