1230 - SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

Basic Functions: It is the duty and the responsibility of the Superintendent to guide and to direct the total operation of the School District in all areas, including business management, leadership and direction of the instructional program and to supervise and to evaluate Central Office staff, principals, and District supervisors, both certificated and support staff.

Typical Responsibilities:

 A.Serves as Chief Executive Officer for the District.

 B.Recommends policy considerations to the Board.

 C.Implements the adopted policies of the Board.

 D.Collaborates with the Treasurer on the development and administration of the School District's budget.

 E.Recommends the employment of all staff to the Board.

 F.Supervises the in-service education of all staff.

 G.Provides for liaison and communication between the District and the community, including PTA, Boosters Clubs, Service Clubs, local governments, county agencies, and other community groups.

 H.Serves as the instructional leader for the District.

 I.Supervises the preparation of all required State Department reports.

 J.Directs the District's transportation program.

 K.Supervises food service program.

 L.Directs the proper preventive maintenance of all buildings, grounds, and equipment, including school vehicles.

 M.Prepares all necessary administrative reports.

 N.Administers the negotiated agreements with employee groups.

 O.Provides for adequate extra-curricular programs for students, K-12.

 P.Prepares the District's annual school calendar.

 Q.Decides on school closings for emergency situations.

 R.Administers programs of commendation for outstanding performances by staff and students.

 S.Coordinates the District's program of special education.

 T.Supervises the District's compliance with all required State and Federal laws and regulations.

 U.Delegates functions and responsibilities to qualified assistants in such a manner that the District's total program operates effectively and efficiently.

 V.Perform other duties as assigned by the Board.
