8453.02 - HAND WASHING SCHOOL PROTOCAL AND POLICY
Hand washing and personal hygiene are important measures an individual can take to prevent illnesses and communicable diseases. Hand washing with soap and warm water for a minimum of twenty (20) seconds is best for removing dirt and germs. Individuals should pay close attention to the surfaces between the fingers and the back of the hands. Proper use of hand sanitizers will also help to control the spread of germs.
It is the policy of the Newark Digital Academy that students and staff wash their hands with soap and water:
| A. | after using the restroom | ||
| B. | before and after eating | ||
| C. | if their hands are visibly soiled | ||
| D. | if the student or staff member has encountered chemicals or other items | ||
| E. | if the student or staff member has encountered cleaning chemicals | ||
| F. | if the student or staff member has encountered bodily fluids (e.g. blood, nasal discharge, mucous from coughing, etc.) | ||
| G. | after sneezing or coughing |
When soap and water are not available and hands are not visibly soiled, alcohol-based, waterless disposable hand wipes or gel sanitizes may be used. A sixty percent (60%) minimum alcohol concentration is necessary to kill most harmful bacteria and viruses.
Hand washing signs will be posted at all restrooms and hand sinks.
Soap, warm water and towels will be available at all hand washing areas.
The Newark Digital Academy will provide education in hand washing and hand hygiene at least once a school year. The Newark Digital Academy will monitor the implementation of this protocol by all stakeholders.
