2111 - MULTI-CULTURAL/MULTI-RACIAL PHILOSOPHY

The School District is an educational community which reflects and represents the diverse nature of a multi-cultural, multi-racial society. In the School District we shall provide learning experiences which enable students, regardless or race, creed, color, national origin, sex, or disability to understand different cultures. It is hoped that the understanding of these differences will allow students to be open-minded to learning about other cultures.

The School System has the obligation to make education for pluralism a fundamental theme. In order to acknowledge and respect the diversity which exists among racial and cultural groups, the School District shall develop an educational program that will provide maximum opportunities for all students. Multi-cultural programs shall permeate the curriculum. Therefore:

 A.The instructional process and programs for students shall place high priority upon developing a sense of personal worth.

 B.The instructional experiences for students shall encourage an appreciation of cultural and racial differences and similarities.

 C.Opportunity shall be provided for the School District students and staff to become knowledgeable about the contributions of racial groups as classified by the Federal Government and will be integrated throughout the curriculum.

 D.Opportunity shall be provided the School District students and staff to become knowledgeable about the contributions of women in America, past and present.

 E.An atmosphere or respect shall be encouraged to extend attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors related to multi-cultural and multi-racial education.

 F.The instructional process and programs will be structured to minimize traditional gender bias modes of educative, socialization leading to the elimination of barriers to success, specifically, detrimental to women.

The School District commits itself to providing programs that involve administrators, teachers, students, and parents to accomplish the task of multi-cultural, multi-racial education.
