The School Board acknowledges the educational validity of out-of-school assignments as adjuncts to and extensions of the instructional program of the schools.

Homework is one vehicle that can assist schools in emphasizing the partnership needed between home and school in the educational process of children. Assignments are to be directly related to the instructional objectives outlined in the district's Curriculum Guides. The purpose of homework is to provide the student with independent practice to reinforce, extend, and apply skills. Assignments should be made in which the student can be successful.

Homework should be returned to students as soon as possible to provide timely feedback. Teachers should consider the amount of homework assigned. Parents should plan with their children specific times and appropriate environment for doing homework.
