Outstanding accomplishments in curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular areas shall be recognized and the Superintendent shall establish procedures for recognizing outstanding student achievement.

The professional staff is authorized to review and approve, or reject proposed trophies, prizes, scholarships, or other awards from nonschool donors. Acceptance will require affirmative answers to at least the following questions:

A.Can the proposed award be considered free from motives of personal or corporate gain and publicity?

B.Are the criteria for making the award under the control of the professional staff or acceptable to the staff?

C.Are the purposes, either implied or explicit, of the proposed award consistent with the District and schools goals?

To recognize outstanding student scholars who strive to realize the benefits of public education, the third Tuesday in April each year is designated as "Academic Scholarship Signing Day." The Superintendent shall establish procedures for schools to conduct activities, on or after the third Tuesday in April annually, that recognize high school seniors who sign a letter of intent to accept an academic scholarship from a postsecondary institution.
