Unless a specific policy has been amended and the date the policy was revised is noted at the bottom of that policy, the Bylaws and Policies of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools were adopted on May 11, 2011 and were in effect beginning July 1, 2011.
 

3430 - LEAVES OF ABSENCE

Instructional staff shall not be absent from their assigned duties except as authorized by the Superintendent. An instructional staff member who is willfully absent from duty without leave shall forfeit compensation for the time of such absence. A leave of absence is permission granted or allowed under School Board policies for employees to be absent from duty for a specified period of time with the right to return to employment upon expiration of the leave.

Leave of absence without pay not to exceed thirty (30) days may be granted to full-time regular employees if approved by the Superintendent. Extended leave in excess of thirty (30) consecutive workdays may be approved, subject to the following conditions:

 A.no wages or salaries shall be paid during the leave except as provided in other Board policies;

 B.all leaves shall be approved by the Board except for those granted under workers' compensation laws; and

 C.reemployment rights to a position of like status shall be protected in accordance with the respective collective bargaining agreement.

Leave shall be used for the purpose stated in the leave application. Instructional staff who use leave for purposes other than that stated in the leave application shall be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.

All leaves shall be governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
