Bylaws & Policies
Unless a specific policy has been amended and the date the policy was revised is noted at the bottom of that policy, the Bylaws and Policies of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools were adopted on May 11, 2011 and were in effect beginning July 1, 2011.


The School Board shall provide a comprehensive elementary and secondary Human Growth and Development (HGD) curriculum.

Parents will be notified in advance when the HGD curriculum will be taught in the classroom and encouraged to review the program content and instructional materials. Parents should speak to the teacher if additional information is desired. The teacher will provide the student an HGD Parent Letter explaining the topics that will be covered. If the parents wish to have their child removed from segments of the program, they should submit an exclusion letter to the school principal. An appropriate alternative educational assignment will be provided.

HGD is an instructional component of the Districtís comprehensive health education curriculum. Comprehensive health education shall be taught addressing concepts of community health, consumer health, environmental health, family life including an awareness of the benefits of sexual abstinence as the expected standard and the consequences of teenage pregnancy, mental and emotional health, injury prevention and safety, nutrition, personal health, prevention and control of disease, and substance use and abuse.
