The School Board of Miami-Dade County
Bylaws & Policies
Unless a specific policy has been amended and the date the policy was revised is noted at the bottom of that policy, the Bylaws and Policies of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools were adopted on May 11, 2011 and were in effect beginning July 1, 2011.

The Superintendent shall submit to the School Board for its approval Curriculum Bulletin - 1, which identifies and describes the authorized courses of study for the schools. Curriculum Bulletin - 1 is incorporated in Policy 5410. All schools shall provide a program according to authorized courses of study, State law and rules, Board policies, and District administrative directives and procedures. Within these requirements, courses of study for each school shall be planned by the faculty and principal to serve the school's student population and general community, while maintaining equitable, high expectations for all students. Educational Excellence School Advisory Councils are encouraged to assist principals in identifying appropriate curriculum needs of the school community.

School staff and other personnel are encouraged to submit to the appropriate District curriculum specialist suggestions for improvement of specific courses of study and recommendations for courses or programs that may be added to the approved curriculum. If a need is identified by school staff for a course of study, the subject area content of which is significantly different from that of courses in authorized programs, the principal may contact the Associate Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction or Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction (K-12 Core Curriculum) to determine procedures to be followed.
