5463 - ADMISSION OF NON-CHARTERED OR HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS

Students seeking admission into the District's schools who have been enrolled in non-chartered schools or home schooling programs may be required to take competency examinations. The purpose of these examinations is to determine the proper grade placement for these students. In making a placement decision, the Superintendent may consider:

 A.the student's most recent annual academic assessment report;

 B.whether to require the student to take any or all of the nationally normed, standardized achievement tests that are regularly scheduled for the District students of similar age; and

 C.other evaluation information that may include interviews with the student and parent.

Home schooled students must be enrolled in a minimum of three (3) core courses at the high school in order to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Additional eligibility requirements also apply.

Home schooled students must be considered a full time student in accordance with Board policy to be selected as valedictorian or salutatorian.
