Qualifications:

 A.A valid Superintendent's certificate issued by the State Board of Education.

 B.Such other qualifications of academic, professional and personal excellence the Board may specify.

 C.Must pass criminal background check.

 D.Valid Ohio driver's license.

Overview of Position:

The Superintendent of Schools reports directly to the Board of Education and holds all executive and administrative authority and responsibility for the effective operation of the schools, excluding those areas of control which are required by Statute to be exercised directly by the Board or another officer. The Superintendent acts as the District leader with the support of the District's administrators, who make up the District leadership team.

Major Responsibility:

The Superintendent of Schools works with the Board of Education to develop policies and District goals. The Superintendent is responsible for implementing and adhering to the Board's approved policies and goals. The Superintendent may delegate specific powers or duties to assistants or subordinates, while maintaining final responsibilities for any actions taken.

Vision, Continuous Improvement, and Focus of District Work:

 A.Develop a shared vision for the District.

 B.Expect, model and support the effective use of data including but not limited to Achievement Data, Value Added Data, and Survey Data.

 C.Create a coherent plan with a limited number of focused goals, actions steps and benchmarks each year.

 D.Review progress and revise strategies for achieving District goals.

 E.Communicate the District's vision, goals, and focused plan through a variety of sources such as District Newsletters, Podcasts, Website, and other Community Resources (Newspapers, Civic Groups, and Community Meetings).

Communication and Collaboration:

 A.Demonstrate communication competence with stakeholders.

 B.Develop, implement and maintain effective communication systems.

 C.Communicate effectively and openly demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with the Board of Education, the District Treasurer and District staff.

 D.Communicate effectively and openly and demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with external stakeholders.

Policies and Governance:

 A.Review, develop and recommend policies for the District.

 B.Implement and continuously assess policies and practices.

 C.Identify and respond to societal and educational trends that affect the District and community.

 D.Advocate for all children and families.

Instruction:

 A.Require District-wide use of an established curriculum.

 B.Ensure the development and implementation of high-quality, standards-based instruction.

 C.Set expectations for and guide the creation of a comprehensive assessment system for the District.

 D.Ensure that the District curriculum, instruction, and assessment program are designed to provide full access and opportunity to all students.

 E.Implement processes to monitor and assess the District-wide implementation of curriculum, instruction and assessment.

 F.Provide for high-quality, professional development for all staff aligned with District goals.

Resources:

 A.Recruit, develop, evaluate and retain quality staff and oversee human resource management.

 B.Organize time and schedules to focus on student learning and other District goals.

 C.Manage and prioritize fiscal resources to align expenditures with District goals.

 D.Identify and equitably allocate materials and technology to support District goals.

 E.Oversee the District's facilities and operation.

Special Projects, Other Duties and Skills:

 A.Facilitation of coherent and well planned construction projects.

 B.Leadership in managing levy and bond issues campaigns.

 C.Identifying enrollment trends and making recommendations concerning facility needs.

 D.Leadership as demonstrated by effective communication and writing skills, sound and thoughtful decision making, facilitator of trust and high expectations, demonstrates creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial skills, is self motivated and demonstrates ethical and professional behavior.

 E.Engages in professional and personal development through participation in local, State and National organizations and conferences, visits other school districts, reads current professional literature.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of State laws in regards to schools, Board policies, supervision, and public relations. Ability to understand and follow policies, rules and regulations, supervise personnel, interpret State laws and Board policies, and serve as leader in the community. Skill in various office machines including computer, copier, and FAX machine.

Equipment Operated:

Computer, copier, and FAX machine.

Physically Demanding and Hazardous Working Conditions Inherent in this Position:

Occasional exposure to loud noise, unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissues, infectious disease and irritating chemicals.

Terms of Employment:

Twelve months a year. Terms and salary to be negotiated with the Board.

Performance Evaluation:

Shall be evaluated according to Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Board Policy.
