7250 - NAMING OF MEDINA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICTBOARD OWNED PROPERTY
The Board of Education is responsible for naming property owned by the Medina City School District. The Board owned property includes facilities such as, but not limited to buildings, athletic fields, stadiums, gymnasiums, libraries, and multi-purpose rooms. In selecting a name for Board owned property, the Board may consider individuals, geographical locations, general features of the area in which the property is located and other names that are deemed appropriate by the Board. If the property is named for an individual the following criteria will be applied:
| A. | The individual must have made an outstanding contribution to the District, community, county, state or nation (as determined by the Board); | ||
| B. | The character of the individual be unquestioned (as determined by the Board); | ||
| C. | The individual be a resident or former resident of the community (may be waived by majority vote of the Board). |
Community members may submit to the Superintendent names of individuals to be considered.
Sponsorship of Medina City School District Board Owned Property
An individual or group that donates a significant amount of money may be eligible for naming rights (significance of donation shall be determined by the Board).
Renaming of Medina City School District Board Owned Property
Renaming of Board owned property may occur when:
| A. | the Board determines that the property has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced or substantially renovated; | ||
| B. | the property has been designated for another use; | ||
| C. | the Board wishes to include other honorees in or adjacent to the newly renovated or redeveloped property; | ||
| D. | an honoree or sponsor for which Board owned property was named causes dishonor to come to him/herself, the District or the Community. |
The Board directs the Superintendent or designee to establish a naming committee composed of a Board member(s), administrators, parents, community members, employees and when applicable students to consider and/or suggest names for property. Based on the work of the committee, the Superintendent will then make a recommendation to the Board for the naming of property.
The Board will not be influenced in its decision by personal prejudice or favoritism, political pressure or temporary popularity in choosing a name. Although the Board will consider all recommendations, final authority to name property rests with the Board.
