5331 - STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL HEALTH CARE NEEDS
The District, in combination with involved parents and families, is committed to addressing the needs of students with food allergies. While acknowledging that schools are public buildings and cannot be allergen free, the District is committed to being a food allergy aware District and will do so by engaging in the following practices:
| A. | provide training for staff in regards to life threatening allergies; | ||
| B. | when notified by a parent of a child with life threatening allergies, meet to discuss the student's specific needs and develop an Individualized Healthcare Plan for students; | ||
| C. | ensure that all staff who work with students with life threatening allergies are trained and informed of the student's needs; | ||
| D. | notify parents of students in the classroom of the child with life threatening allergies of the safety issues and health risks; | ||
| E. | when appropriate, provide for Allergy Free Zones in all school cafeterias; | ||
| F. | communicate with parents of children who have life threatening allergies the need to notify the District. |
The District requires parents to inform the District on a yearly basis of their child's life threatening allergy, complete and return the appropriate medical information forms, and meet with staff to discuss an Individualized Healthcare Plan for their child.
