| | A. | The Board of Education shall not permit any Board member, school employee, or any other person to change a grade given to a student by a teacher unless the teacher who gave the grade concurs with the grade change. |

| | B. | As used in this policy, "grade" means a grade given for a final examination, or a grade given at the conclusion of a marking period, semester, or term. |
|
| | C. | If the teacher who gave the grade does not concur with the proposed grade change, then the request for grade change must be submitted in writing to the building principal. |
|
| | D. | After consulting with the teacher who gave the grade and the proponent (student, parent, legal guardian, foster parent, or other) of the grade change, the principal may convene a review panel. |
|
| | E. | A review panel for considering a grade change shall be composed of the principal, three (3) teachers, and the student’s counselor (or school social worker at elementary buildings). If a member of the regular review panel is involved in the proposed grade change, that member shall be replaced on the review panel by an alternate. The review panel may not include the teacher whose grade is being contested. |

| | F. | The student requesting a grade change or the student’s parent or legal guardian is permitted to make a presentation at the review panel meeting. |

| | G. | The student and the student’s parent or guardian and the teacher who gave the grade shall be informed of a decision on a proposed grade change. |
|
| | H. | The teacher who gave the grade or the proponent of the grade change may appeal the decision of the review panel to the Superintendent. If there is no appeal within thirty (30) school days, the decision of the review panel is final. |

| | I. | The Superintendent shall review the reasons for and against the proposed grade change and then approve or disapprove the decision of the review panel. |
|
| | J. | The teacher who gave the grade or the proponent of the grade change may appeal the decision of the Superintendent to the Board. The Board shall review the reasons for and against the proposed grade change. The Board may approve or disapprove the decision of the Superintendent. The decision of the Board is final. |
