2464 - PROGRAMS FOR GIFTED STUDENTS
In accordance with State Department of Education mandate, the Board of Education shall ensure that procedures are established to identify students on an annual basis considered to be gifted, using criteria developed by the State Department of Education.
Gifted students shall be considered those who, through valid assessment, show one (1) or more of the following abilities:
| A. | specific academic ability superior to that of children of the same age or grade level; | ||
| B. | creative ability in a particular area superior to that of his/her peers; |
The Board shall attempt to provide appropriate instructional experiences to meet the needs of gifted students.
The learning outcomes of a program for gifted students shall be related to stimulation of intellectual curiosity, independence, and responsibility.
The Superintendent shall develop administrative guidelines to ensure reliable identification, effective curriculum development and implementation, and valid assessment of the learning outcomes.
